French doors swing rather than slide, which means they seal the way a casement window seals: hard against a continuous gasket, driven by multi-point locking. That makes them the strongest thermal and acoustic performer of the opening door styles, and it is why they remain the specification of choice where a door faces weather or a noisy street.

Swing clearance is the constraint
Two leaves need somewhere to go. Opening inward costs floor space and rules out furniture in the arc; opening outward costs deck or balcony space and needs hardware rated for the weather. On a narrow balcony that clearance is often the reason a slider wins instead, and we will say so rather than sell you a door that will annoy you daily.
Period homes and sightlines
Federation, interwar and Victorian Sydney homes were built with hinged doors and the proportions show it. Made-to-measure frames let us match the original leaf proportions and, where a heritage control or a streetscape calls for it, finish in a woodgrain foil rather than white. Georgian bar options are available where the original had divided lights.
Security
The passive leaf is secured top and bottom with shoot bolts into the frame and threshold, and the active leaf runs multi-point locking into the passive one. That is a substantially better result than the single centre latch on the doors these usually replace.
