How Much Do uPVC Double Glazed Windows Cost in Sydney?
Indicative starting prices for every window and door style we build, what actually moves the number, and how to read a glazing quote so you can compare two of them properly.
Most window companies will not publish a price, and there is a legitimate reason for it: every window is manufactured to the millimetre for one specific opening, so there is no such thing as a shelf price. That is still not much help when you are trying to work out whether double glazing is a $15,000 decision or a $50,000 one. So here are the real starting figures, and an honest account of what pushes them up.
Starting prices by style
Double glazed uPVC, supplied and installed, including GST. These are the lowest points in each range, at the size stated.
| Product | Size | From |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed Windows | 900 x 600 mm | $350 |
| Awning Windows | 900 x 600 mm | $520 |
| Casement Windows | 900 x 1200 mm | $580 |
| Tilt and Turn Windows | 900 x 1200 mm | $780 |
| Sliding Doors | 2100 x 2100 mm | $1,850 |
| French Doors | 2000 x 1000 mm | $2,600 |
| Bi-Fold Doors | 2400 x 2100 mm | $3,200 |
Bay windows, lift and slide doors, stacking doors, tilt and slide doors and thermally broken entrance doors are quoted on measure - panel count and configuration drive those prices far more than a nominal size does, so a "from" figure would mislead more than it helps.
Prices are current indicative starting points in Australian dollars including GST, for supply and installation in our standard service area. They are not a quote and do not form an offer.
The six things that decide your final figure
Size
Price tracks glass area and frame perimeter, not a flat rate per window. Doubling the dimensions of an opening roughly quadruples its glass area, so large feature windows sit well above the starting figures above.
Opening style
A fixed pane has no hardware at all. A casement adds hinges and a multi-point lock. A tilt and turn adds the most engineered gear in the range. That progression is most of the gap between $350 and $780.
Glazing specification
Low-E coatings, acoustic laminated glass, toughened safety glass and triple glazing each carry a premium. Acoustic laminated is the upgrade most Sydney homeowners actually feel, and the one we most often recommend.
Quantity
Manufacturing and installation both have fixed set-up costs that spread across the job. A whole-home replacement costs less per window than replacing two, and a whole building costs less again.
Access
Ground floor with a clear approach is the baseline. Scaffolding, swing stages, crane time, lift access in a high-rise or a difficult site approach all add to the installation line rather than the product line.
Colour and finish
White is standard. Colours and woodgrain foils - often required to satisfy a heritage control or a strata scheme's external appearance by-law - are a surcharge, and dual colour (different inside and out) more so.
How to budget for a whole house
Floor area tells you almost nothing about glazing cost - two homes of the same size can differ by a factor of three depending on how much glass they have. Count openings instead.
Walk the house and list every window and external door, with rough dimensions. Most Sydney homes come to between 10 and 20 openings. Apply the starting prices above as a floor for the small and medium ones, price the large feature windows and doors separately because they carry the weight, and then subtract something for volume - a full-home replacement lands below the sum of its individual windows.
That gives you an order of magnitude, which is genuinely all any online figure can give you. The itemised quote after a measure gives you the real number, line by line, so you can stage the work by room or by elevation if the whole job is more than you want to take on at once. Plenty of our customers do exactly that.
Reading a glazing quote properly
Two quotes for "double glazed windows" can differ by 40 percent and both be honest, because they are not describing the same product. Before comparing totals, check that both quotes state:
- The frame profile and brand - a five or six chambered European system is a different object to a generic two-chamber extrusion
- The full glass make-up - pane thicknesses, cavity width, gas fill, Low-E and whether any pane is laminated
- The hardware brand - multi-point locking or a single latch, and who made it
- Whether removal and disposal of the old frames is included, or a separate cost you discover later
- Whether internal and external reveals, architraves and making good are included - the most common hidden gap between two quotes
- Warranty terms for product and for workmanship separately, and who honours each
- Whether the price is itemised per opening or a single lump sum you cannot interrogate
Every Windows Factory quote is itemised per opening, states the profile, glazing make-up and hardware in full, and includes removal of the old frames and site clean-up. See how the process works from first measure to final install.
Volume pricing for whole-building replacements
When every unit in a building is replaced in a single coordinated project, per-window costs fall well below individual homeowner jobs - and the whole program can be staged to fit your body corporate's budget across one or more financial years.
We prepare written, itemised proposals formatted for inclusion in AGM papers, and can present to the committee if required.
